just noticed ECM wires to have some sort of bite marks and pieces of insulation. this is consistent with some sort of a rat chewing on my wires. What can be done to stop them?

my cars are parked on sidewalk in Brooklyn. I cannot place traps on the ground. Can I put some in the engine compartment without endengering the next tech who is going to change oil?

Maybe you could get a small shallow container (like a shoe polish or chewing tobacco container or similar) 3M tape it to an area under your hood and put some poision in that.
I've set traps inside my engine bay at night, but leave my hood unlatched. In the morning, I'll get the "Hood Open" warning, remember I had set a trap, recover the trap, drive to work, then reset it at night.
