replacing rear lower control arms
Also I have found a coil spring compressor that goes thru the center of bottom spring perch, that i **think** will do the job, ...opinions,comments?
.
Suggest place a rag between the two clamp arms and replacement spring to protect the finish during install, and replace the deteriorated lower spring base.
Last broken spring I had on a back coilover of a B5 S4 and now on the third set of rear springs. Once the finish opens up then corrosion sets in and it is the beginning of the end for the spring. Fact of life for winter driven cars.
In the end i realized the spring does NOT need to be removed for this job, just compressed enough so there is no pressure on the control arm. I hooked the top of the compressor at the top end of the spring and then i pur the "horse shoe" shaped bottom piece under the control arm and comprerssed the spring down towards the bottom of the pan. you need to use plenty of grease on anything that turns.
