Default RS: Rear window heater defogger not working, 2005 diesel

Hello everyone,
I have been reading the forum since I got my A6 but I have decided to become a member and share my experiences and hope to get and give help with issues that follow these machines

Recently my car started to really act up. From some mechanical problems up to some really annoying and some less annoying electrical issues. The one I listed started to really bother me since the winter came and it combined itself with the other issue I will post about.

So my defogger is not working since I got the car 2 years ago.
It turns on the light and it switches it off after 10min as the manual says it would if the temp is over 0 degrees C. So i naturally checked the fuse and it was good. I have a 40A fuse like on the picture below the 373 relay and to the right. Then yesterday I pulled the relay 373 and tested the resistance and also hooked it to 12v and a multimeter on continuity and it all worked, so relay is also good.

I am asking what my next step is. I am guessing that power is being sent to the heating element but the connection is broken. I have the trim pannel off for the 3rd brake light and I see some connections going to the window on the driver side but I don't want to go and poke with a multimeter since I could short something. Could anyone lead me what and where to check? Should I check the fuse for power first or check on some of the connectors of the window?

Thanks in ahead!

Sounds like you've taken all the proper steps except testing the continuity of the element on the window itself. If you're worried about "shorting something" then either be appropriately careful or disable the circuit you afraid of shorting to.

That did not cross my mind, thanks!I will pull the fuse and the relay so I am sure it will not have power. Do you know where to probe? I took a picture of what I see under the central trim panel. The two connectors on the right look like 2 antennas, central is ground and the one on the left seems like something similar.

This is on the passenger side. Do I need to remove the trim panel to access something?

Thanks

That's possible about the trim. A defroster should have relatively thick wires compared to any antennas or just about anything else. Follow the traces in the window to determine its start/end points. They could be hidden under molding for sure.

Hello,We got another car so the Audi was not used as much an not annoying automatically
I took off the C pillar trim to try to find the wires but I did not find anything apparently powering the defroster.

Only thing that looks like it could be is the thing on the passenger side with the coil, but again the wires are thin and it looks like they connect to an antenna. I disconnected one wire and tested for continuity between the wires and there was none.Do you think that the connection can be on the bottom of the window?
