Got a killer deal on a 07 A6 4.2, or did I? key stuck, no start, "SAFE" message
This is my first thread. I purchased a 2007 A6 4.2 that is not running. It has 155,000 miles. It is in great shape inside and out. Cost me $1000 usd
I have done a ton of digging and have not found any solutions that work yet or enough information to find a solution.
Here is what I am currently facing, along with what I have tried so far:
1. The key is stuck in the ignition. I can turn the key just fine, but it will not release. The battery was dead when I picked up the car. I had to trailer it home. Charged the battery all night inside my house at 2 amps. holds a charge just fine.
- There is no pin hole near the keyhole to release key
- I have tried shifting into all positions and back to the park with no luck.
- I have the center console area removed because i was going to see if the cable was possibly misaligned but did not want to keep removing parts to get to cable yet.
- depressing the shift release that sits under ash tray did not help
- battery inside if key is good.
- dash turns on
- "safe" is displayed in odo screen
- esp message
- brake not working error message
- MMI does not power on but all other electronics seem to be working.
I was planning on figuring out how to get key free first and then move on to the no start issue.
any advice would be great.
