Default A6 C6 Manual Swap thread


Hello all,

This is my 2008 Avant that I have converted to manual here in the USA. As far as I know it’s the only manual A6 currently on the road on this side of the world. It came originally as a 3.2 v6 with a slush box, now it has the 4.2 out of the 2005-2006 A6 and the manual drivetrain from a B6 S4.

The swap is I’d say 90% complete, there are things still left to figure out with wiring & programming that I just haven’t gotten around to yet. But the car runs and drives fantastic and is a world of fun.

If anyone would be interested, I’ll make a full page documenting how to complete the swap. For anyone with an automatic transmission that’s on its way out, this actually could be a good financial decision for you, as the cost of the swap really wasn’t too dreadful.

That's awesome! Realistically don't see myself getting around to doing a swap, but would love to see what's involved.

He posted the majority of the ordeal last year when he did it. I was assuming it was complete by now but he's saying 90%. I suspect he wants to take all that info and condense and organize it for the benefit of all forum members.

While I'd be curious to see some more details, my gut tells me that the 3.0T is doing to be quite a bit different than a 4.2 V8, especially one from the C5 era. A manual C6.5 avant with the 3.0T would be sweet but a pretty big lift.

As far as I know 3.0T should be just as straight forward. I’ve been looking into getting a 3.0t avant to swap

The last percentage really covers the final bits of wiring that I haven’t gotten round to but the most pressing issue is the ABS which I still don’t have a workaround for.
