Alarm Horn Fault
Alarm locking sound was coded OFF so I took VCDS and coded back to ON again, just to see would it work and there is a locking sound confirmation present, after all. There is no unlocking sound tho (don't know is this ok or not).
Any idea what's wrong here?

1) roll down the windows
2) Lock the car with the remote
3) Set the keys down fairly close, but not too close
4) Reach inside the car and open the door
If the alarm sounds, it works, if not, you need a new horn
My A6 4.2 and S6, both had the horn in the Plenum towards the center, it is a bit down in there. Not super fun to get to, but also not horrible.
As sswari says the module may produce this DTC and still work but module failure is pending if the DTC cannot be cleared.
Cut the old module open if you want to see the aged out internal battery. You could try replacing the internal battery if corrosion has not yet destroyed the board.

If not, I’m thinking to take out it’s battery and replace it with mine (if board is not fried).

Thanks! I had not thought through the issue and simply ignored it. I will do something about it next time I am under the hood.....which is soon as I have a passenger HID issue that has me baffled. I have a good bulb in the ignitor, if I connect it all up outside the housing the light works. When I go to put it in the housing correctly it dos not.
The metal in the housing appears electrically isolated from the car. Grrr.
