2016 Q5 3.0L Battery Replacement
I need to replace my 8 year old OEM Audi battery - (hard to believe it's still functioning). I found an equivalent Interstate AGM at Costco for $100 less than other car shops would charge. My question is whether I should use a memory saver to keep the on-board computer running during the replacement process. Also would a 9V memory saver work. - Thanks.
Do you know that you need to code the new battery to the the Q5 battery power management system using VCDS, OBEleven, etc?
All you need to do is change the current battery serial number up/down one digit.
You should read this long post...........

I recently installed the $179 Walmart Everstart Platinum H7 AGM into my 2017 SQ5. I then changed the sn by one digit to reset the BMS (Battery Managment System).
I believe that resetting the BMS is only so that the BMS can give a more accurate warning (and shut-down non-critical systems) when it thinks the battery is near the end of its life. I don't think the BMS changes the charging profiles based on its internal calculated battery state-of-charge or aging / SOH / estimated remaining capacity / internal resistance.
If you don't reset the BMS, I don't think it will harm anything, or impact the life of the new battery, except you might get a premature battery end-of-life warning.
All this is just my opinion, unless the coder at Audi tells us what the BMS is really doing.
