Wheel bearing recommendations?

The new Avant arrived a couple days ago, it's in pretty good shape but needs a few things...

First off, one or both of the rear wheel bearings are bad, bad enough to make driving it not really fun...

Does anyone have thoughts on quality of various brands? SKF? Febi Bilstein? Obviously VW/Audi is good but they're so expensive

Assuming your Avant is a A6 C6, I have used the SKF bearings for a replacement on the front. Audi parts are not made specifically by Audi Ag, so probably SKF makes the bearing for them as an OEM part (with the four rings that increases the price). Note that for a rear bearing replacement, you will need to drop the exhaust to access the bearing (per the Bentley Repair Manual).

Thanks for the info, I went with SKF for the rears, figure I'll do em both at once...it's noisy enough that I can't really tell which one anyway. $339 for the pair (with hardwar) from ECS

I watched this AutoDoc vid of a C6 RWB replacement...looks like it's a FWD TDI though...no center lug to the rear CV. I can't imagine that it's that much more complex on a quarttro since the hub and bearing cartridge both come out on the front side...if anything the CV might make the 4 12mm triple square bolts a little more tricky to get to...
