Default What is this part -S8 5.2 V10

Hello,
I found a leak in my intake manifold and recovered this piece that had fallen below. I can see where it goes but it’s clearly been broken off. In looking on the forums, I think it has something to do with flaps inside the intake manifold. Can anybody tell me what this part is? If I’m wrong, what it’s for? And perhaps instructions on how to fix it?
Much appreciated!

Yes, it's mounted on the front of the manifold and connects to a vacuum actuator.

Unlikely you can get those parts separately. As they’ve broken off inlet manifold flaps you’re going to have to replace the entire manifold assembly, or find a used one you can take the parts off of.

I know some people remove the flaps from inside completely, but not sure what that does for drivability/torque etc.

Is there anyway that this could have happened on it's own? I had just taken my vehicle in for a state inspection and then this falls off. I have a hard time believing that this would break in 2 spots at the same time. I can't seem to find anybody else that has had this issue on the forums. Either it's extremely rare or I'm searching the wrong terms to find it on here. I'm suspecting sabotage from the inspector, but don't have any proof.

I personally never remember a picture or description like that. The 4.2 shafts are prone to freeze up just inside the casting--faulty design where they kept the bearing sealed from outside but forgot to deal with the corrosive condensation inside that is generated during cold start up and the PCV/oil separator function. Meantime, yep a good way to break it is to try to move them when that bearing is frozen or sticking. Long term they are likely a goner, but w/ my old 4.2 I nursed it for. year or two by soaking the shaft from outside with some penetrant and carefully working it back and forth. Once it froze fully, it was done no matter if I had gently moved it or tweaked it hard with vice grips.
