Q5 3.0 TDI 2012

Hi, does a Q5 3.0 TDI 2012 model have a timing chain or timing belt? How many km’s before it needs replacing? Mine has done 80,000 km. Thanks

Probably chain drive. You need to be more specific about the engine identification. What is the engine code? Found on the vehicle identification sticker, should be Cxxx. I highly doubt Audi advertises any service interval for the chains; they don't for the V6 or V8 gas. Audi only cares that you shouldn't need to touch them for the "lifetime" of the engine, which is only 200k km. After that, you're on your own as far as they care. I know my uncle's Mercedes V6 diesel was 250k km change interval.

Looks like there was CCWA and CCWB. The 4th character reflects the output tuning; the first three denote the physical engine. So for this purpose, CCW is specific enough. CCW appears to be "EA896 evo" family. You'll see Audi use "common rail" for the EA896 and "common rail Gen2" for EA897. The basis of the EA896 is documented in VW SSP 350 (google search will find it) if you want to get a general overview of your engine technicals. The direct injection fuel system is elaborated in SSP 351.

So chain drive, as typical of the Audi V6 engines. Appears to be the older 4-chain configuration. The EA897 uses the newer 2-chain V engine config.

There is also a toothed belt, not sure what for. Oil pump is on the chain drive. Coolant pump is on the serpentine belt on the front. Ok, appears it's the high pressure fuel pump drive?
