Default PLEASE HELP- 2014 q5 Kind-of-new guy

All right, you really good people. I’ve never posted on here, but I’ve been reading all these brilliant things you all post for 16 months; now actually NEED help so badly. I’ll try to make it short.

I have a 2014 Audi Q5 Quattro SQS 2.0 four-cylinder :

I’ve only owned it about a year so I’m the second owner, but in short, I have had no problems with it aside from had to replace the right front axle UV joint. I replaced it myself and did a pretty good job but got very frustrated and in trying to work it out of the tight spot- my arm Broke two ABS wires causing the lights on the dash to light all over. Reconnected the wires and a couple of months later, and as of recent, "steering defective- you can keep driving" warning was coming on- the car eventually would die, and I had to hard reset (disconnecting the battery) just to walk it home. When trying to check the other sensors and the fuses to make the lights go off and make sure everything was where it should I made the silly move when I unplugged the convenience control module and rear passenger trunk and the ABS module under hood...now the dash reads “ignition defective call dealer,” and the OBD scanner will not even read or pick up the codes for me to clear...but it will power on. The only other things that work are the lights, stereo by pressing the ****, hazards (and I have tried the brights+hazards+brake hack), and the keyless entry as well as the buttons on the key fob. The bake is heavy feeling pressed to the floor...The only way to lower windows is to turn the key in the fob outside in my door handle. NOTHING ELSE WORKS.

I ordered another ignition lock and fob used- it arrived today and when I tried the key fob in the slot "please remove key"

Friends I just finished law school at age 45, I am broke, have the bar in two months and desperately need your help.

Oh and here is the latest scan before the lay down (there's no way in 5 hells all of this is wrong):

Man, killing us with that output. VCDS, there's a reason it's the expected standard. There's errors in there, but I can't speculate what's noise, what's outdated, what's relevant.

If you intend to keep the vehicle, do yourself a big favor (assuming you have a Windows laptop to run the software):
https://store.ross-tech.com/shop/vchv2_ent/

I imagine this vehicle is an electrical mess, probably wiring issues and voltage delivery issues all over. The scan tool will always be able to connect to the J533 (gateway) if the power is there. You say ignition appears to be able to come on (when you insert the key without the brake pressed)? If so, confirm 12v at all the fuses on the passenger end of the dash. The brown column is term 30 (should always show 12v); the black column is term 15 (only 12v when ignition is on). Both the OBD-II port and the J533 have a fuse in both the brown and black columns there.

Hope you become a better lawyer than a mechanic. LOL

You keep messing with wires and creating problems. Do yourself the favor and take it to a mechanic. You aren't broke, you just live in debt. You are already in debt so another ding on the credit card just keeps the pile high.

Sorry dude but you are playing with a car with a computer. Not a 1969 Nova.

Thank you so much sMac checking on that now. I have an apple Mac so I’m going to see if that was suffice. However, I triple checked all the fuses on the passenger side and they’re all in the right spot as I check the manual Audi website and they were all good…and yes, I like to hope I will be a pretty good attorney. Actually, I AM broke. Take care of my father w/ Alzheimer’s. Had to work and pay my way through law school. This is neither here nor there; thank you for the constructive reply.

I’m not getting any voltage either of the passenger or driver with my multimeter with the key in or out of the ignition… I should’ve been more clear I apologize. I put the key in with either one of the new ignition locks. It won’t even go to the first on position where the car turns on electronically, with the new lock doesn’t belong to my car I purchased and said please remove Key,; with original ignition lock and my key phone doesn’t do anything but the time on the dash… I failed to mention that the emergency parking break is on and stays on and when I try to turn it off the light on the dash just blinks…

Found this under the driver side dash by the relays and looks pretty major, but I don’t know what it plugs into

That is not uncommon to have unused plugs. For instance, if you add a hitch and the tow module control unit, you will find 2 unused plugs specifically for interfacing with the tow control unit and the new hitch wiring harness. And these plugs have a foam sleeve around it just like the one you show in the photo.

That 4-pin is for the optional trailer brake controller. It's not relevant to any active issues.

VCDS doesn't run on MacOS natively (or whatever it's called these days). People have been able to operate it on a Mac using various tools. One example, https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/8697/ The necessary specifics will likely require you to search based on exactly what manner of Windows provision you have.

If you do have an Android or iOS device, you could just run with the OBDeleven app. Not as good imo, but at least it'll be more structured output than the original software.
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-obdeleve...4871obd07~obd/
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-obdeleve...4871obd02~obd/
there's a lot of functionality locked behind having the pro pack, but the basics of reading/clearing codes and reading measuring values just needs the base device

"I’m not getting any voltage either of the passenger or driver with my multimeter with the key in or out of the ignition" ... ? You said previously all the fuses were fine, which means that the expected voltage was measured on both test pads on the top of each fuse. Which would be "12v" on all the brown and red column fuses (except positions 1-4 on the driver's side brown) and "12v" on all the black column fuses, but only with ignition on. But it sounds like your original ignition switch is not invoking ignition, while the replacement one is?

We're nowhere near needing to care about the EPB (electric parking brake). And check the voltage across the battery posts. If you've got the car on a lot but never running that engine, it's probably getting low. You're going to have to be able to put it on a charger at some point.

The car computers just seem real unhappy, but there's no intelligible way to interact with them without an adequate tool set to produce an intelligible state log.

One option is to buy a cheap laptop for VCDS on Craigslist. I bought mine for $35. It's cheap and slow but I don't care, the only time I use it is with VCDS and it works great for that purpose only. Sorry to hear about your father.

That's a good idea. I think I found a way to make it jive with my apple...I appreciate the kind words.
