Default MMI Update - NavMan

I stumbled onto a video yesterday about updating MMI as a DIY using firmware data provided by the NavMan (Ben Weaving) website. I've heard the dealership updates are very expensive and I just decided I would live with my outdated NAV maps, but now I think I am going to give this a try given the cost is just a bit North of $100. It includes updates to the MMI firmware as well as the maps. If you have a 4G system, you can even get Carplay or Android Auto. I am surprised this is the first I have heard of this option. I was considering RSNav but I have not worked up the nerve to give it a try for fear it might be buggy or that I might mess something up during the install.

Here is the video I found on the DIY process:

And here is a link to the Navman website:
Audi MMI Updates | CarPlay | Android Auto | 2024 Maps | Navigation (thenavman.com)

Has anyone here done the MMI updates using NavMan? And if so, was it worthwhile?

Update:
Well, I went ahead and placed the order with NavMan. It was $113 with discount for the software bundle for my 3G+ system. You can select download or have 3 SD cards mailed from the UK, and there is no additional charge for either option. I decided to wait the 1-2 weeks for the SD cards just to eliminate any potential error on my part. Prior to ordering, I did some additional research and discovered that there are some free to download MMI/Nav update files out there (with instructions) but can't be sure if these are the latest and if the instructions are specific to your particular MMI system. $113 seems reasonable to make sure you get the latest data and instructions for your specific MMI. You have to download a photo of your MMI screen with the software version information prior to placing the order. I will plan on posting my impressions once I have completed the update. Here is the "before" version of my 3G+ MMI:

Here on the forum you had the option to update the firmware version for your device for free, you also had the option to update the map for free but with the 2020 version
Your database is old, it is the version from 2014

The last version of the map system for you is 2023 8R0051884KM and there is no longer support for that model of navigation, it is better if you bought RSNav

I may still do an RSNav install at some point. The biggest benefit for me would just be the larger and nicer display since I don't use a smartphone anyway. In the meantime, I think $113 just for up-to-date NAV maps is well worth it and even more important than having the upgraded display.

This is a scam, my advice is don't buy it

There are no maps for EU and US version 2024, the last version is 2023 and there is no more support or new map updates

Just to warn you, this is a lie, the latest firmware for you car model is version HN+US AU3G K0942 and it is the version from 2016 and the last version of the maps is from 2023
The version in the seller's picture is the 8R0051884JE map from 2021/2022, map version 2021/2022 came out in September 2021, it is a transitional map and after that there are 3 more versions
THERE IS NO 2024 VERSION
Good luck

FYI I found the same thread from last year

I did not believe that I was getting data from 2024, just the latest available, whatever that may be. I am happy as long as it is the latest data for my 2014 Q5 and would not consider it a scam as long as that is the case. But I appreciate the information and will send a query to NavMan just to make sure that I will be receiving the latest map data from 2023.

Good luck, I'm just writing what he advertises, it doesn't exist

For me, it's a scam as soon as someone writes and advertises that they sell 2024 and it doesn't exist, just like firmware 2024, which is a version from 2016.

I know what I'm writing about

Let us know what the seller replied, which version of the maps he sells and the firmware version

I will definitely follow up with any answer I get. I agree that "2024" is a little misleading but I did not take it to mean that it would be 2024 data, just the latest as of 2024. It would not be reasonable to expect that Audi would have a 2024 firmware update for a 2014 model, but I do think it reasonable to expect Audi to continue to provide map updates for at least 10 years or more.

To give you an answer, Audi Q5, A4, A5 same platform came out in 2008 /2009 there are three versions of MMI with DVD (Europe) and two versions with HDD one with MMI 3GP with internet option
The last version of the maps is 2023, which means 14 years of updating the map twice a year
The last version of the firmware is 2016, because the firmware is only updated for new options in the navigation, after 2016 there are no new options, no new firmware connections, I hope you understand now

As far as I know, no European manufacturer provides updates for more than 12 years

Here is the reply from Ben Weaving (NavMan):
Thanks for your message. We will be providing the full and final release available for the NAR units. Audi announced earlier this year that these 3G systems are now EOL (End of Life) and no further updates are being released.
FYI some people like to look on ETKA for the latest product IDs and releases. However, ETKA always assigned a product code (even if the item is never released) with a lot of the older map data. The data cutoff in the latest maps is 2022. There is no newer and will not be any newer release.

I did ask a follow-up question for clarification of the latest Nav database. I did not know this until now, but it does appear that Audi customers can purchase the Nav database update from the Audi electronic parts catalog which I guess is what Ben refers to as "ETKA". I was able to put the "KM" version of the Nav database update in my cart but did not try to check out. So I am curious if someone were to purchase the "KM" version, does it actually show up as the "KM" version when checking for software versions in MMI. Does anyone on this forum have a Nav database version for North America that is later than the "JE" version ?

Lastly, I did just find something on VWVortex that seems to confirm what Ben is saying. A forum member (DrGER) provides links to the latest MMI firmware and Nav database for FREE and indicates that "JE" is still the latest NAV data as of April, 2024. Here is the link:

Please don't fall for what he says, he found for free on forums and sells to naive people like you, I shared 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 US maps that I had
And if the person in question is lying, I will show you how we in Evorpa do it, we have a group that is organized and we give 10 EUR each and we buy maps of Europe every year then we share those maps on forums, he downloads the same maps from the server and then sells them
Here are a couple of links to prove that navman is lying, the maps of EUROPE that appeared in ETKA are available
Audi and VW are serious companies and never publish FALSE INFO in their catalogs

GOOD LUCK WITH NAVMAN

This below is proof that the 2023 2024 maps available are the same ones that appeared in ETKA

Audi MMI 3G Map 6.35.1 8R0051884KB 2022-2023

Audi MMI 3G Map 6.36.0 8R0051884KL 2023

Audi MIB-HS Europe 2023/2024 (Delphi)

Audi RMC Navigation Maps 2024 Europa

Otherwise, the person you mention as the authority on databases DrGer is a member of this forum and received maps, firmware and instructions from me
