Hey guys got myself into a bit of a pickle and was wondering if anyone could help me or point me in the right direction. I recently purchased a set of basically new 08 S8 headlights with the 5 LEDs for DRL. However, I assumed since my car was also an 08' I thought it would plug n' play and never checked the connections (foreshadowing). Upon installing the new headlights I realized that my car had a 14-pin connector while the S8 headlights had 10, The headlights from the S8 are Xenons w AFS and the same goes for the headlights I originally had on mine. I couldn't find much online, only really 10 pins to 14 pins but not vice versa which I need. Could anyone provide me a wiring diagram for both cars or just give me guidance on how to do it? Thanks in advance!
If I had to guess, it's not going to work, even if you did do a wiring conversion, I would imagine they have different headlight controllers and you'd need to retrofit that and recode if it would allow you to do that.
As far as modules, from what I've researched, the S8 and A8 both use the same modules and it's just the number of pins that are different, if i can get my hands on the wiring diagrams for the A8 and the S8 might be able to get them to work, only thing is I can't find said diagrams
My input FWIW and honestly what little I know, there are Adaptive and Non-Adaptive headlights for the D3 A8/S8. I posted awhile back on trying to convert from Non Adaptive (5 LED DRL) to Adaptive... as eBay has more Adaptive Headlights for sale than Non-Adaptive (with several not correctly described - be careful). I wound up shipping back the Adaptive Headlight I got from eBay. I am rebuilding a non-adaptive headlight (wiring only) as the example I got had internal wiring insulation completely ruined... crumbled when I touched it. I cut the harness in half near the connector and am rebuilding it with heat shrink tubing. Going well so far. That being said if your car has connectors with 14 pins and the headlights have 10 pins I would think the car needs coded to non-adaptive... but I never went down the path of trying to figure it out with VCDS and doing something like that... and that is a big assumption if those 10 pins control same functions on a 14 pin headlight. There are less moving parts in a non-adaptive headlight...and as previously discussed in my thread they may be more desirable. Getting the coding right seems like searching for hens teeth...
