preferred water pump
water pump is leaking after 80k. i see a lot of options out there from rein, pierburg, graf, etc. curious what the general consensus is to the the best replacement. id rather not have to replace it again in 20k because of premature failure. i would assume its also better to go with the aluminum housing units instead of plastic?

For FCP Euro and ECS Tuning, I know that if you can find a part that is listed as "OE" rather than "Genuine VW/Audi", it is the same part made by the same manufacturer but it will be a lower price because it is not procured directly from Audi or VW. On the other hand, "OEM" means it is made by a company that is an OE supplier but they are not the OE supplier for the part in question. Here is the explanation from FCP Euro:

The OE water pump from an Audi dealer is the best for this engine if you don't want to do the work again later. Many of the largest Audi dealers have an online store front that they sell the same parts through just at much lower cost. The one I use is https://www.audiusaparts.com/ which is Audi of Beaverton in Oregon, one of the largest by sales volume in the USA so the parts are always the latest and very new. The aluminum housing units are no better and in fact they seem to be worse based on empirical observation. Good luck...
