Should i tackle restoring a 2005 A8L?
My drifting nephew left his A8L in my field, and I think has abandoned it. Needs the rear suspension thingie, and I guess he's just not interested anymore...has sat for a year.
I just started it, had to enter the trunk because of dead battery.
Runs fine, shifts good, good rubber, no dings, paint good, no overheat...of course it's a toilet...slob...mice have taken up residence...bummer.
VIN # WAUML44E75N015480....2005 mode
So the major issue is the automatic rear end suspension operator is dead...he did get some sort of adapter to replace some cicrcuitry...no go...really interesting ride, eh?
Where can I get info on that particular rear end contoller...OR I heard there was a kit for making it a conventional mechanical suspension.
If you replaced the battery the new one will also need to be coded into the ECU to prevent any errors. These are not easy cars to maintain or manage and you honestly have no clue what you’re dealing with until you get it scanned on a computer. These are great vehicles when functioning properly but that can be rare depending on their condition.
Did your nephew drift the thing? It’ll probably need new rear suspension links and bushings.
How well maintained is the engine? The V8 is prone to timing chain issues, will probably need a carbon cleaning, and a basic service of plugs and coils, maybe a fuel filter, air filters, and coolant.
It’s a dangerous can of worms. Your wallet should be ready.
