Literally a thousand posts on this board about them. Most common mechanical fail point on D3, even when they were in their early years.
If shop struggling, unbolt at upper pinch point at hub (ball joint end) and then move the user arms around the rubber bushing axis. Any deep cracks and they are gone. And, if you get it only next month, start spraying on the penetrant now to the pinch bolt--weeks, not days if possible. They often break if not very careful, and then world of hurt to get out given exactly how they are located.
Alternate easy diagnostic is look for wear on inside of front tire tread. If more pronounced there, a secondary clue--suspension seems to move around enough when worn to grind down those inner edges abnormally.
By your age and depending on miles, could also be lower arms, or lower probability the tie rod ends.
