Audi a8 start issue- I need all the help I can get
I need some help asap but I have time to spare and experience mechanic.
Dallas TX here too.
2004 Audi a8L 138,000 miles, new battery. Put key in ignition and nothing happens but the radio and interior lights come on. If I turn the key to any position, the same thing happens. I don't get the typical Christmas tree lights when key is turned or steering column release noise /action when key is inserted. I changed the ignition switch & checked fuses. Still doing the same.

I can't read any codes. Even with the key turned to acc or start position, I don't get any dash lights other than the red miles and date. If I pull back on the shifter the dash will say put in P. That's all I get.

Well, you must connect a diagnostic tool to your car to properly read the fault codes. Guessing wild remotely will not help.

I can connect a code reader, but if the car isn't recognizing on, acc, or start than the code reader can't read anything but voltage

That is way too low! Connect a proper battery charger and let it stay for 24 hours. Then disconnect the charger, wait 10 minutes and measure the voltage again. If it is at least 12.7 volts, try to start.
A quicker way is to connect a working jump starter.
Generally, you need to read up on voltages and such.
