Default cv axle replacement

what is the preferred brand of replacement cv axles? Is GKN the go to or is raxles better? also, i know the axle nut is a stretch bold and needs to be changed, but what about the 6 triple square bolts at the transmission? do those need to be changed as well?

Audi does quote the inner flange bolts as replace if removed, though I didn't for mine. They are just a torque spec, not torque+angle, but TTY (torque to yield) bolts can come with whatever manner of fastening spec. But they really aren't that expensive.

Used OE has been my preference. If you can handle the downtime to let raxles rebuild yours, that would likely be next best. But then GKN is the OEM.

i assumed raxles are rebuilt oe since they need your axle core back. id rather not have the car on stands for 2 weeks waiting on an axle. buying the gkn is a little cheaper and would allow me to keep my old axle to rebuild later if need be, but if the raxles are significantly better, i think thats the route i would go. just wondering what the general consensus is on that.

There's been threads about raxles and GKN and such between the various B8 forums, here and audizine, probably also elsewhere. Searching for raxle and GKN among the B8 A4, B8 S4, B8 A5/S5, and B8 Q5 forums should find those threads.

I rebuild original axles using new boots with OE GKN CV Joints if a joint has failed. By the time a boot fails which left undetected will cause a joint to fail, I like to at least replace upper control arms at the same time. Saves time and money in the long run and avoids repeat work in the near future.
