D3 A8 blown head gasket

D3 A8 blown head gasket
My D3 A8 with the 4.2L motor has been diagnosed with a blown head gasket (and I have no reason to doubt the diagnosis). I am assuming this is a tow-to-the-scrapyard situation. Just wanted to check in with the community before sending the car off to the great beyond. Is there a path to putting the vehicle back on the road that makes any kind of economic sense? FWIW the car is located in Fort Collins, CO. Thank you in advance for your input.

@byrd390 Sorry about this…many, many years ago, I had a MY86 MB 300 SDL that died on me for the same reason with 586,000 miles on it. Bought it second hand from the original owner.
You may want to look into these folks in Utah, you would have ship the car though. Just a thought.
Google Dave’s Auto Center in Centerville, Utah. They do a lot of rebuilding of engines and I have seen that folks have shipped cars to them. It is worth at least a call. Best of luck.

Just a bad head gasket or bigger issues? Does it still run ok? Has it been badly overheated? You could of course replace the failed gasket. Maybe not economical to have a shop do it, but maybe worth DIY if you have the skills. How much life would be left in the car if it was fixed?
You could always throw in some head gasket sealer and you might get lucky. Worth it if the alternative is to junk it.
