2015 Q5 3.0T with PCV issue - looking for advice
Hello, First time poster so will do my best to follow all protocol! I bought my Q5 new in 2015 and it has been my favorite car. Hate to part with it but I'm in a bit of a pickle. It has 105k miles on it, recently had to replace the daytime running light LED control module, not a week after that was done the car started to make a high pitched whistle/whining. The noise stops if I press on the gas or if the cruise control is actively putting power to the car (versus coasting or slowing down). Took it to an independent shop and the PCV codes came up. The shop informed me that the 2015 3.0T has an extended warranty (Number: AWA-19-03). So, I call my audi dealer (who the car has gone to for it's entire life including oil changes, regular servicing, etc.) and they inform me that my VIN is not covered (qualified via mileage, age, engine...just they are not including my VIN). Without getting into the weeds of production runs, recalls, etc. it is frustrating that Audi is sticking so hard and fast to their estimate (as that's exactly what it is) of the issue that this concerns. Anyways, Audi has told me to take it to the dealership to have them diagnose it and then they can submit a request to get an exception made and honor this extended warranty for my Q5. Thankfully the audi dealership is only going to charge me $100 for the diagnostics (keep in mind the independent shop did all of their work for free, including diagnostics). Once the audi dealership diagnoses it with the PCV codes covered by the warranty then a request to provide me with an exception can be made. Sorry, this is ranting a bit at times; will try to wrap it up quickly. If it is not covered then the cost of the dealership to fix it is $3,100 or the cost of the independent shop is $1,450. So, the advice I'm looking for is: 1. does anyone have any suggestions on increases my chances of having audi honor the extended warranty on my car? 2. if I have to pay to fix this - should I? My concern is that this car is worth @ $12k. So, $1.45k is over 10% of it's worth and given the age, mileage, and costs to fix audi vehicles is this something I should just walk away from? As much as I love my vehicle I'm not trying to turn this into a money pit on wheels. If this is something that is worth paying for and hopefully will be a long time before another big expense on this car are there other maintenance items that should be performed as long as this job is being done (my understanding is that the super charger comes off to fix the PCV issue). Apologies for writing a novel and thank you all in advance for any advice/guidance you can provide!
