Won't rev above 4000 when stopped?
Hello all,
Recently did an oil change on my D3 S8 and have been going through some other issues but everything seems to be running OK so far. Last thing I tracked down was a "gross evap leak" which was a bad gas cap seal, typical. Right now it has no CELs and everything runs great, but for some reason when stopped in park or neutral, it refuses to rev above 4000rpm. Before the oil change I could do that just fine but ever since the oil change, it refuses to go above 4000rpm. Running and driving is just fine, no CELs at all, just won't rev above 4000 when stopped. Anything I should be looking for?

Did you scan it with VCDS? There are lots of examples of this happening in various Audi's if you search. Primarily cooling system or oil pressure related from what I see. The engine more than likely is protecting itself from something.

I thought that was just normal protection by the ECU to protect the engine from damage/fire, should you start the car and a floor mat is stuck on the accelerator or unconcious person has their foot on the pedal. I think my 09 does the same thing.

Yes, Audi have long used a rev limiter when stationary, and still do, at 4000 rpm.
