Default AU: engine number issue

I have eventually fixed the Q5 with nil issues at all, driving great.

But when I took it for road worthy inspection, the inspector said he can't do it because the engine number mismatch the factory number, the most important is the replaced engine with number by someone engraved on it.

That number matched the data base in authority but how come that number is engraved by someone? that inspector suspects the engine is not legitimate. he needs some paperwork to show it's legitimate. how can I get it ? I bought it from auction site.

HOw can I do now?

that engine was built in 2011, 12, according to the timing cover's label.

Or I have to replace it with another engine with factory stamp on it ?

Can you locate the original engine number that Audi AG marked? The engraved number may have copied it for easier access.

Is this "engraving" in the factory location?

https://www.global-motors.eu/wp-cont...d8-scaled.jpeg Timing cover sticker showing CDN 314317.
https://www.global-motors.eu/wp-cont...27-scaled.jpeg Block showing CDN looks like 31431something, pic is too bad.

But those are the only two places Audi puts the engine serial number.

"the engine number mismatch the factory number, the most important is the replaced engine with number by someone engraved on it." Sounds like the gov't being a dick just to be a dick to me. Is repairing a car illegal down there?

I don’t know if it is common in this generation but past generations for example 1.8T’s where mechanically same size cyl heads and blocks had some interchangeability, it was common for machine shops to machine the engine code off of rebuilt cylinder heads. They left it up to the installer to engrave the engine code on the blank machined surface where the factory code was originally located.

Thank you very much for reply.

I don't understand that inspector so strict or so suspicious ? just for a old engine ?

It looks like it's had a recall from Audi from what reason, I am trying to get some answers from audi if I am lucky enough.
I have tracked back to it's Hx, it's bought by a company originally than sold to 2-3 different owners, had rego changed al well.

Who does steal bloody engine innowdays?

Don't understand it.

the worst situation that I will removed another old engine blok from A4 or A5 from wreckers with factory stamp on it then rebuild it again.

what a waste of time and money.

any good suggestions.

The upper timing cover is a replaceable part, yet you can't get a replacement sticker. So why are they expecting in that instance? Not to mention those stickers eventually fade.

What is the exact specific concern of the guy? You probably couldn't even get from Audi factory what the original engine serial number installed in that VIN was. The engine serial has no relation to the VIN at all. Obviously the engine isn't from that car, the sticker alone says 2011.

Take the sticker off and grind the engraving. No more issue. :-P

I have paid the reach report coming with same engine number, that guy is not happy with engraved number, he's suspicious that the engine is not legitimate.

I have replaced the timing cover with no lable on it, just thinking if I should replace the one with lable back to engine, to grind that number may cause more suspisious I think, I have talked to the auction shop that I hope they can provide some evidence to assist with it.
I have also digged out the previous REGOs with this car and previous owners, so I can hopefully find out when and where the engine was swapped.

thank you guys so much for suggestions, iT REALLY SUCKS, i REALLY enjoying working on this AUDI, it's driving very smooth and powerful, nil single issues at all.
