06 A8L AFS Headlight Power Plug
Bought a used h/l assembly, plugged it in, turned on the lights and only one of the beams worked. Later tried again, all lit then one went dark. Checked the plug and found the connection loose. I put pressure on the plug and they work, let off and one goes dark. The power plug is not making good contact. So... what now? New plug? Splice new plug harness?
Also have the AFS Defective warning is flashing. It's a separate issue but need to fix it since the front bumper cover is off. There again it may be wiring or motor. Strange that both quit working at the same time. I checked the fuse box, found one of the two fuses, designated AFS left and right, was burnt and one was not. I would think one would still work but doesn't.
Appreciate feedback on these issues from someone who has successfully fixed these problems.

Inspect the wiring harness in the area where it connects to the light. The heat will degrade the coating over time similar to the ABS harness. You may have two wires touching somewhere. Ask me how I know....If that is the case, easy fix. I used heat shrink tubing and retained the existing wiring or you could replace the wires and re-pin the ends. Not sure why your connection gets loose, maybe some dirt in there?

I examined the power plug and found the lock tab does not engage. When I bought the car the previous owner said he had issue with the headlight, had tried and failed to fix, gave up.
I believe from the look of the plug he tried to pry it off with a screw driver. The lock tab is still there but has broken off the housing and just pulls out. The wires to the plug are brittle but still appear firmly attached. The insulation is fragile for sure. i have ordered a new 14 wire plug which comes with the pigtail. I will solder the spliced wires and seal with shrink.
I will tackle the AFS issue after I have the lights working.
Final note: Although the AFS isn't working, the lights are centered.

To update: I received the new 14 wire h/l plug and of course the wire colors didn't match. Doesn't matter, I spliced each wire individually by the numbers on the bad plug. Three of the available wires on the new plug were not part of the harness, eliminated. Spliced each wire with silver-bearing solder and heat shrink insulation then wrapped with self-fusing shrink tape. Headlights are working except for the right high beam, suspect the bulb is nfg. Dash display shows the defective bulb sign. I'll replace it hoping that's it.
By the way, the front bumper cover came off without much trouble, reinstalling it was a PIMA !
New problem came up though. My battery went dead overnight, happened twice. The first time may be from having the doors open while I replaced all the window regulators that ruined the tint on the windows. I wonder if it happened again because I left the headlight switch on the Automatic setting instead of off. I wouldn't think so but I am still learning the quirks of my A8L.
Otherwise I have a drain, possibly from the radar detector being left on.
