Knocking sound when accelerating (but not steering)
I have a 2015 Q5 Premium with close to 100K miles on it. When I accelerate, I hear a steady knocking sound coming from what seems to be under the hood. I find this particularly noticeable when the engine is working hard during acceleration (e.g. going uphill at 60MPH+). What is odd though, is if I turn the steering wheel while accelerating, the noise goes away. I've tried this at higher speeds (e.g. slight curves in the road while accelerating 60MPH+). I've tried to find theories on this particular issue on these forums, most of which point to a CV joint issue, but I haven't seen any posts of the "goes away when engaging steering" part of it.
Any ideas what might be the issue here?
Thanks!
I'm a bit of a 'newb' when it comes to engine issues and I'm really just trying to get a possible diagnosis and assessment of how dangerous it is to continue driving with this (and if possible, idea of general cost to repair). I don't have a Vag Com, but what exactly might I be looking for in terms of codes, etc?
