Default Air suspension/VAGCOM question

I have a suspension compressor, not OEM, that has started to run briefly then shut-off and display both the green and yellow suspension lights. Will a scan be able to detect a relay malfunction ? The car collapses in the front with in an hour, so a leak must have developed because that has not happened before. What things can a VAGCOM tell me concerning the status of suspension system components ?

it will tell you every fault to do with your suspension, tell you that you have a leak and should on which side if its the struts or just the solenoid. Will also let you recalibrate when parts like the compressor are replaced and if you have the D3 depending on the year you cannot use vagcom but only VCDS vagcom is a cheaper version of vcds but only works on audis i wanna say 07 and up and only certain ones i do not believe the A8L will be one of them.

If the suspension ecu detects a leak it’ll shut off the compressor to protect it from overheat, etc.

As you obviously have a leak in front, you’ll need to fix that asap or it’ll only get worse, and you’ll eventually end up burning out the compressor from overwork. The side that’s slightly lower is the side with the leak. The sway bar pulls the other side down with it which is why is looks like the whole front axle has collapsed.

With VCDS obviously you need to pull the fault codes, it knows the difference between a small leak and a large leak.

But more importantly, you can use measuring blocks to see the relay position, the height of the shocks, the accumulator and system pressure, etc. It makes it much easier to troubleshoot when you start looking at those things. Look at the system or shock pressures along with relay position and compressor temperature. Then start the car and see what happens. Sometimes the compressor won't run until you are moving. Best of luck.
