S8 Continuously raising and lowering

Hey all, newer member here, I have a 2007 S8 and the other week I noticed that the compressor was running a lot so I did the usual tests for leaks, however I couldn't find anything. Then I noticed the air ride isn't leaking, it's constantly raising the rear into a very high position, dropping it, and then starting again. It does this over and over until the compressor overheats.

I have ran a scan on VCDS and there are no error codes, I even recalibrated the air suspension as per the Ross-tech guide, made some minor adjustments but the car still does it. Any ideas as I'm now lost?

Strange behavior. Do the rear ride height sensor readings make sense in vcds? Something is erroneously telling the suspension ecu that the rear is too low. Are the ride height sensor links connected up ok?

They look normal yeah, I can see in VCDS the height lowers to normal (0mm) and then instantly starts to raise back up to about 50mm.

This is regardless of what setting the car is in, lift mode etc... Tomorrow I will disconnect/inspect the sensors and see if anything is wrong

A new update,

So I have checked and tested each sensor, all connections are clean, and wires are unbroken, I even tested the movement of each sensor with VCDS and they all seem to report correct readings. I even checked the valve block and other areas for leaks.

I have noticed that the car will sit stable whilst idling and no one is in the car. As soon as I sit down in the car, it starts this cycle of raising and lowering. Any new ideas?

Very odd behavior that I’ve not come across before.

Presumably there’s still no fault codes in the level control system, you have it coded to default (ie no VCDS lowering), and ride height calibration process has completed correctly, with standard coding in place?

No fault codes at all for the level control. It is currently at default ride height. I have completed the calibration process twice and both times the height measured fine. I am aiming to try this again Friday just in case.

Very strange. I would disconnect and reconnect all pertinent connectors multiple times just to get rid of any possible oxidation or poor contact on the connectors involved.
