S8 Low Fuel Pressure
2007 AUDI S8 141k miles. Very well maintained by AUDI dealers it's whole life.
My S8 is in immaculate condition despite the higher mileage. For that reason I rarely drive it, and sits in my garage for months at a time. The car sat for a few months, but usually with Seafoam for fuel stabilization and cleaning. Car drove fine, UNTIL I added Shell 93 Octane. The car was difficult to start, and then began hesitating and sputtering. I add a bottle of 104 Octane boost, thinking I got lower octane and or bad fuel. Car runs a little better. I drive about 30 miles, and notice it still has some fuel problem. I add a SECOND bottle of 104 Octane Boost, and the car drives normal. The next day I drive the car in 40 degree temperature 110 miles. At the Sunoco gas station after fueling, the car once again is difficult to start, and then starts sputtering and hesitating. Luckily I revved it up, and got on the highway back home and just left the car driving in cruise control. This was only achieved in EPC Mode with the CEL ON. The car would stall out when slowing down or coming to a prolonged stop.
Here's the WEIRD part. I add a can of Seafoam into the tank and the problem almost seems gone. The car drives normal. I add fresh gas again, and the same fuel pressure problems arise. I change the fuel filter. It didn't seem clogged at all. Then on to the same problems, as the fuel filter WAS NOT the culprit. So I decide to change the HP Fuel Pumps, as I don't want to have anymore problems. The car THEN seems GREAT, drives well with good throttle pressure, BUT after 15 miles of test drive, starts to hesitate and experience cylinder misfires. I return home, to scan the car and reset. I drive the car again, and it's in the worst state now.
Only drives a miles, and then starts to hesitate, sputter and stall out. IF I let the car idle for a few minutes, I can probably drive 1/2 a miles before it stalls out again.. Using VCDS Module 140, I see the fuel pressure is AT SPEC, until it stalls out. Then it begins to drop rapidly, sputter, and usually stall out. I know I have some type of fuel pressure problem, but I just don't understand what else is left. I installed NEW HITACHI HP Fuel Pumps, and a MANN Fuel Filter. Any advice is appreciated. Here's the WEIRD part. I add a can of Seafoam into the tank and the problem almost seems gone. The car drives normal. I add fresh gas again, and the same fuel pressure problems arise. I change the fuel filter. It didn't seem clogged at all. Then on to the same problems, as the fuel filter WAS NOT the culprit. So I decide to change the HP Fuel Pumps, as I don't want to have anymore problems. The car THEN seems GREAT, drives well with good throttle pressure, BUT after 15 miles of test drive, starts to hesitate and experience cylinder misfires. I return home, to scan the car and reset. I drive the car again, and it's in the worst state now.
Only drives a miles, and then starts to hesitate, sputter and stall out. IF I let the car idle for a few minutes, I can probably drive 1/2 a miles before it stalls out again.. Using VCDS Module 140, I see the fuel pressure is AT SPEC, until it stalls out. Then it begins to drop rapidly, sputter, and usually stall out. I know I have some type of fuel pressure problem, but I just don't understand what else is left. I installed NEW HITACHI HP Fuel Pumps, and a MANN Fuel Filter. Any advice is appreciated. The low pressure fuel transfer pump(s) in the fuel tank could be starting to fail 🤷♂️
An ohm reading at the pump motor connection should be around 5 - 10 ohms. A higher reading means electric pump winding has failed.

The PROBLEM was in fact the low pressure fuel rail sensor as shown above. The funny thing was that disconnecting it had the car running GREAT, although with a CEL. After making a socket to fit into the sensor, it was an easy change, The car was somewhat fixed. Now I have a G247 fuel pressure sensor error. Happened 3 times at idle. The car just randomly shut off. But thank God not while driving.

Are you sure that the main fuel pumps in the tank are working correctly? Sounds like you still have a problem there as that’s the only part of the system you’ve not touched. On the 06 on and the FSI cars they’re demand controlled based on the reading from the low side fuel pressure sensor. They could be having issues ramping up and down properly. Unplugging the sensor will default the pumps to full flow as a fail safe, hence why it then runs good.
