battery coding issues
got a new varta battery but it has no details.no bem code
have managed to sort out a code I think but , I test it , it's ok but when I save it,it goes back to the previous code.
somehow the car reads the soc as 100% but only as a 60Ah not 105Ah.
any ideas please? thanks
If you swapped from the flooded Varta (110Ah) to the comparable AGM Varta (105Ah), then you should change the BEM related to the AGM part # coding, but again, you could still simply index the stored BEM code, and then ensure the data stored is correct and update as necessary.
Depending on the specific scan tool you are using to reset the BEM info on your Q7, there may be diff pathways in that specific tool to follow. In my first scan tool (basic) for this car, it was a bit clunky to change the battery coding, and I recall it asked me to enter the Ah/capacity of the new battery and possibly the CCA...cold cranking amps, etc. If using VCDS scan tool, then it's asking for the exact BEM code (part# / mfgr code/ date code) in a very precise sequence. For my most recent AGM battery, I just used the actual Varta AGM code (105Ah AGM) I got off an Audi parts website, used the Varta code as the mfgr code, and then simply made up the last section of code to represent installation date of battery, etc. If you mess up the number of spaces required in the part#, or throughout the BEM code, then it won't accept the new values, etc. These Q7s are also picky about the mfgr code used; mine wouldn't accept the actual mfgr of battery (JCB - Johnson Controls Battery), so I just went with the Varta code, and I had to try it with VAO and also VA0 to find which version would work...again, a quirk of the Q7/BEM system.
