Oil leak in spark plug holes
I have the dreaded camshaft girdle leak.
What is the latest and greatest fix for this?
I found the leak sleeves that get pressed and RTV'ed in through the spark plug holes themselves, but have not found any reviews or anyone that has tried them. And $400 for the 8 sleeves is a big pill to swallow.
I have the engine torn down to pull the cam girdles currently, but I am at a stopping point as far as how to get the rear timing gear adjuster covers off of the back of the engine. There are 2 SAI (secondary air injection) valves that are going to be impossible to pull due to where the tork screws are behind the rigid air injection lines that feed air into the head are positioned.
I ended up purchasing the oil leak repair sleeves from www.audioilleak.com and couldn't be happier. These can be installed without removing the valve covers (I removed mine because they were leaking to replace the camshaft cover seals....)
The oil leak sleeves fit perfectly, and were a great alternative to the amount of labor it would have taken to remove the camshafts and cam girdles.
If anyone is interested, I did make a youtube tutorial on my issue and repair.
As they’re just held in with silicon, rather than an interference fit, I doubt it’d cause any issues with disassembly should you need to go that deep.
