Moving on to a D5

The D3 is a special car, and it really felt like Audi spared no expense developing it to surpass the competition. It was after all a Piech era car, so it’s safe to assume that was actually the case.
The subsequent D4 and D5, whilst objectively better, just feel iterative and as though they were called in by the design team.
I don’t think we’ll see a D6 A8. Just not enough interest in the sector, and certainly not in the A8. If Audi had any sense, they would retire the A8 name and replace it with a gussied up LWB Q8 (aka a budget Bentayga EWB) and call it a Q9.
