Default Help with Battery Adapatation

2015 Audi Q7 3.0T

Replaced the battery in the ole girl today. Replaced the AutoCraft H8 with a Duralast Platinum H9. Install went smooth, until it came time to do the battery adaptation. Using the VCDS, and following their instructions (youtube link) I was able to get to the correct screen (non-UDS CAN Gatway instructions) to enter all the info. The problem is when I put the new values in and then select TEST, the original values populate the Test Value line, not the new values I am entering. It should put the new values I entered. I am not sure why it won't take the value. I tried it multiple times. I made sure that I entered enough values for each part of the new values, extra spaces cause the new battery part number is only 10 digits, when the computer needs 11. And I made sure zeros were entered as zeros and O's where entered in a O's Anyone run into this issues and what did you end up doing to solve the issues?

New Battery Values on the BEM sticker:
BEM: 7P0915105D
JCB4405088126

Value entered into VCDS:
"7P0915105D JCB 4405088126"

Original Values in the car
"8K0915105F VAO 3F5M0JO "

yeah apparently not all BEM codes are created equal and won't be accepted for no reason other than poor coding. Is the new battery a 105ah AGM? The first sequence of code refers to the battery specs, that's what's important. You'll have to search the threads for a battery with your exact specs that has a code that works. A change in the third string of digits will tell the energy management system there is a fresh battery to start learning (basically an arbitrary serial number) and can be any new series, most guys just change one value of the original though.

I used this code 000915105CF VAO 370811A14Y I pulled it from here for my Q7 TDI. Found it on another thread with a whole list of battery types and capacities with their respective BEM codes.

Battery is H9 AGM listed as 100ah.

That link shows that the part number on my new battery BEM sticker (7P0915105D) is listed as a reference number for the battery you linked. Only diff is my battery is listed as a 100aH, where the linked one is 105ah. I am note sure if that 5aH difference is a big deal or not for the BMS.

It's the JCB manufacturer code that's the problem; Q7s don't care for that code. The BEM code is perfectly valid otherwise. Had same issue when I bought aftermarket AGM battery with the JCB code.

I used the part # provided on the battery (BEM: 7P0915105D) in your case, subbed in the original Varta code VAO or VA0, whichever works, and just made up my own date code for the final set for easy reference to the date I installed it, etc.

That worked 100% fine.

Oh yeah, the other part of the equation is that part # is not the 'AUDI' part #, as when you look it up directly it shows the VW vehicle/models battery reference/fits, etc., so that's gonna get rejected by this Q7 also; just use the one he listed above that is the Audi, AGM battery, H9 part #.

I don't think the manufacture letter code is the issue. I ended up creating a code using it and the car took it. I ended up entering 000915105CF JCB 20250309DT (made up from [Coss-Ref# found online] [manf on battery] [date/letters] ) and it took it. So as of right now that is what I am going with. Going to keep an eye on the measuring blocks though to try and make sure it isn't over charging the battery.

It should be fine. Like anyone else in an older Q7, pretty sure you got at least minor parasitic battery drains too.

So, like RJS who recently posted on here, you got a new AGM battery where the BEM sticker showed you a VW part# rather than the part# Audi uses for same battery, and which you would kinda think should be a universal code, but it's not. VW and Audi use diff battery part#s...so stupid.

Moral to this story, I guess, is to save some grief/time lost, and start the install process by looking up the BEM part# indicated to be sure it matches your car's namesake...in this case, Audi. You'll notice that the Audi battery code uses the exact same coding as original, OE battery, which is an H9 size, except the last letter(s) on part# get changed to show the car's BEM system it is a diff technology type battery (flooded vs AGM), along with having slightly diff storage capacity, etc.

Congrats on a successful BEM reprogramming!

Yeah, I think one of the door handles is pulling a small draw on the system. Usually takes a couple weeks of sitting (which is very rare) before it kills the battery so we are just living with it.

Thanks for the further info. I did not know about the difference between VW and Audi part numbers. That is so stupid, but makes more sense now why I was having issues.
