Got Timing Chain Stretch --- VCDS Can Provide Related Measurements!
Ran across an interesting read in a sister forum that I thought some of you DIYers with VCDS would appreciate. This post is specifically discussing TDI motors, but should be applicable to the gas engine Q7s as well...your mileage may vary.

In a nutshell, the thread explains how to use VCDS to observe / track the camshaft adaptation value, and the OP has built a table with a fair bit of data from TDI owner engines CASA, CATA, CRNB, etc., to include engine type, mileage, the camshaft adaptation value shown, whether or not motor has a timing chain rattle at start-up, and oil change service interval being used.
Enjoy!

A user on the other site mentioned the same. The response was, "Select engine controller, advanced measuring blocks, and select from the list the different blocks as per list above. Then hit save and copy/paste text from log file saved..... Go into advance measuring blocks and there should be a list with many IDExxxx that comes up. There is a search bar at the top where you can type the number as shown in my log or the word that interests you (for example camshaft). Then you add checks besides each of values you want displayed."
That same user had previously noted the following IDE values:
Address 01: Engine (7P0 907 401 K)
IDE00021 Engine RPM
IDE00025 Coolant temperature
IDE00182 Camshaft adaptation intake bank 1: phase position -4.15º [actual reading on the subject vehicle]
IDE00196 Engine oil temperature

On my A6 it was Block 93 or something like that, and then you get values for timing
