Default Auto tailgate slams closed

Since I've bought this vehicle, I've noticed that when closing the tailgate, it closes very gradually and then slams closed. I've actually had people comment on it before, it's so aggressive. Anyone else deal with this? What was your solution? I'm hoping it's as simple as replacing the struts for it...

New gas struts; be sure to get the correct ones...it's a heavy gate.

When you remove the old ones and try to compress them by hand or against the floor they'll still feel like they are good, but nope. Have someone/something to support the gate when you change the lift struts. You've been warned!

And make sure you do them one at a time. Seems simple enough but you'd be surprised.

Just replaced mine, It would not go all the way up and I got tired of banging my head. They are a bit different than the factory ones but they def work well. I have zero complaints. link below

What they said, replace the struts. Definitely easier to have someone else to help but I managed to do them myself. Basically had to hold most of the hatch weight up with my head and slide the ends onto the ball mounts. I got aftermarket struts that actually seemed to be a tad longer than the OEM's, so I had to over extend the hatch to initially get them on. Once the first is on, the other side should be a bit easier.

Which ones did you end up getting?

I'd have to look em up again, but any of the generic ones will work. Doesn't have to be OEM if you want to save a little money.

On the gas lifts, they all pretty much look exactly the same on the outside, but it's the seals & overall construction quality and materials that matter for the longevity.

Here's some reference via FCP Euro site, which are lifetime warranted, including OE and aftermarket options to cover front hood lifts and rear gate lift supports, etc. Pay close attention to the fitment notes when viewing an item:
