Default Help pls -- Adaptive Light Failure

Got an "adaptive light failure" warning on the dash, pulled out VCDS, and found the following DTC. Pulled my left headlight assembly to check it for leaks, water, or something obviously broken and all looks good.
Anyone have an idea for what to evaluate or repair on the module to address a short in the swivel sensor? Not even sure when it's located...

Here is the VCDS report:

Always a good idea to take the exact error code and put it into a search engine, just to see what turns up.

This fault code has a known issue TSB linked to it:

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...66426-2280.pdf

Also, on the exterior of the housing are several metallic modules attached; one is the HID ballast/power controller, and the other is for the adaptive headlamps. They have part #s and descriptions on them, etc.

Super helpful -- thanks for sharing this TSB. I did not find it when searching the web based on the fault-code.

However, I removed and inspected the headlight module. I also removed the controller and ballast modules to inspect them for damage. The modules, wiring, and connectors all seemed clean, dry, undamaged, and seated correctly. However, I re-seated the controller module connector and the other end of the wiring harness that plugs into the motors in the headlight (connector "A" in the TSB). I also found and re-seated connector "B" but did not see connector "C" -- probably would have found it if I had the TSB. After wrestling the headlight module back into position, I was finished working on it for the evening and intend to clear the DTC and see what happens.

Now that I'm armed with the TSB, I may remove the module and look for connector "C" in the TSB if the DTC returns. Thanks again for all the help!

I have a headlight issue as well, plenty of codes, although, the headlights work, low and high beams fine. I removed both assemblies and all modules and checked all connectors in comparison for both. I found a really weird situation The tang on the right side was like this, so I dug it out and straightened as much as I could. You can see it is pressed against something pretty hard. I bought these used, but I can't imagine this being factory defect? But, I guess anything is possible.

If the problem traces to the passenger side housing, then that makes sense given the force required to bend that tab completely over likely dislodged the other end slightly where the fine gauge wires come into it, etc.

That is what concerned me and I will look into it.
My question is, WTH caused it? Is it possible the lens was replaced after an accident? It is bent way to weird for me to believe that as well. I mean, it took grunt to bend it back out and it still is not in the right placement, just relieved pressure on the unit it was against.

Update: Re(seated) all the internal connectors, inspected the wiring again, installed module, and cleared DTCs.
Still getting the same errors.

These modules are SO expensive. New ones without modules are ~$700-$1,200 each. 10-115 year old used ones in good condition are about $500jeach. Gonna try the chinese aftermarket LED projector module assemblies which seem to be getting a lot of good reviews and are $900 a pair. Buying from Amazon with 30 day refund/replacement policy and 1 year warranty. Fingers crossed that they are truly good quality and plug-n-play. If not, they're going back. If yes, will keep them for awhile and subsequently sell the fully functional OEM passenger module to recoup some costs. Will report back after I receive, install, and evaluate them.

FWIW, I buy a lot of the 'unobtanium' priced parts on eBay from Latvia, Lithuania, etc. sellers, as they will give you a good deal on the new, OE parts, or you can locate the OEM parts that way too, which are inherently cheaper and the exact same part. Always look for the parts# cross-reference so you can search all the relevant part #s, rather than simply the OE, Audi assigned part #...Audi doesn't make it, they give a contract out to one or more manufacturers to supply the part in their packaging/OE part #/Audi trademarked, etc.

Good luck!
