Default Can I have the trunk / cargo dimensions for the 4L

Hi, looking for the height/width and depth (3rd row down) for 4L Q7s. I am looking to transport a generator and think I have enough space but want to check. Thanks.

While knowing the depth/height width of the cargo area is important, searchable, and also easily measured/verified by you, IMO the main problem and often limiting factor is getting a largish object of any sort through the rear cargo hatch, especially an item in a big box, as the gate opening is slightly smaller than the actual cargo 'hold', etc. Getting the middle seat row to store flat is also important.

If it is new and in a box, then there's normally some 'dead space' inside the box just for insulating materials to protect what's inside from moving around, so consider that too. Out of the box it might fit, even if the box dimensions are too large otherwise. If don't have a cargo liner, collapse the box for it and use that underneath as a liner. Those D-rings along the sides of the cargo floor are for securing loads, btw.

Good luck!

Seems like such information is annoyingly sparce on the interwebs! IIRC, the hatch height opening is a paltry 22" (appx), which is by far the most limiting factor in terms of cargo hauling. Length and width are respectable, but height is just laughable.

Thanks everyone for the replies, height of gen (without wheels is 23.2" (wxl are 26"x30"). I will make a side trip to measure the hatch height..it's close...but I think my gen 1 Chevy volt will may be what I need to take but getting 240 lbs over that lip will be a pian... Probably have to wobble It up while placing 2x4s under to make it level with the surface...same way should have done a rental aerator (than gave me a nice scar and stitches from brute forcing it and sending the metal into the shin &#128514

I measured 28" vertical (straight down to the load floor) from bottom of the the hatch trim piece at top of opening/ 44" horizontal at hatch. Those are your working parameters. That top trim piece basically just pulls off if you needed just a hair more wiggle room, or were trying to keep it pristine, etc. Sounds like should be fine to load in the Q7, especially if you like 'Tetris', the game. And if yours has air suspension that kneels for loading, so much the better!

I think it will be good even with the wheels at 26"...of course will measure and sadly just the plus.. I can deadlift 360 and a frame with no pointy things makes it easier and weights 240 vs the 320...and will def ask the seller to help me load it.

But, is that the middle or the sides? Seems high to me, but then I left the Q at home today and rode my bicycle to work. I recall, back in 2018, I took my Forester to Anchorage to pick up a washer/dryer set rather than the Q7 due to this issue. I ended up fitting BOTH full-size units into the Forester's cargo area, and I wouldn't have been able to get even one of them into the Q7 due to the low roof line.

Then again, the Q7 is such a tow beast, if I had my trailer back then, I could have just hauled that down there and cackled maniacally all the way!

Edit: I see now that it was in the middle. Could you grab a side measurement on that vertical? If he's at 26", it might matter.

My first thought was 'trailer it' or receiver mounted 'cargo tray' as options, but sure, not everyone has a tow receiver mounted, which would make it only too easy.

I measured the vertical drop as that's most important, but the actual opening of the gate measured from center bottom of that trim piece to the bottom door seal is approx 32", so there is a bit of working room there to get it loaded in.

If you don't have the plastic cargo area liner I'd put something back there and probably put some cardboard over the edge/sill of the loading area too during loading to protect the rubber door seals and rear valence.

just buy a hitch hauler and sell it when finished with it. We have one and use it for hauling propane tanks and coolers on it. https://www.google.com/search?q=hitc...=gws-wiz#pvs=0
