Default 2007 Q7 3.6 FSI V6 EVAP code P0441

Hello, my 2007 Q7 with 3.6 FSI V6 gas engine with 95,000 miles has EVAP code P0441. I read in many places that replacing the N80 solenoid fixes this in many cases. It is easy to do and does not cost much so I replaced the N80 by a non-oem version from Amazon that looks the same, and cleared the code. Unfortunately, P0441 and check-engine light came back on yesterday. The VCDS 070 EVAP test fails. So now it could be the canister or related check valves or the tubes. Are there any aftermarket versions of the OEM canister part 7L8201801B. I'd prefer not to spend many hundreds on a plastic box with charcoal. Has anyone fixed this in a lasting way by just somehow cleaning the canister? Thanks for any tips.

IMO, when getting an evap type error it's normally the purge valve, but it can relate to any source of a leak also, such as bad fuel cap seal or just not getting it tightly closed, etc.

Here's a link to article on the myriad possibilities, but a purge valve is testable, etc., and of course you can easily look of damaged/cracked evap hoses too. These Q7s often get a vacuum leak right where the brake booster's vac-hose meets the engine vac-hose, so definitely check that fitting is still airtight. That one also impacts your braking system, so if been having any issues with soft/low pedal or loss of brake boost experienced, those are clues. Just from quick fault code search found a good bit of archival threads info around that one too, so shouldn't be too difficult to resolve. Suggest you also use the Ross-Tech fault code finder in their Wiki page, as it gives advice specific to these VAG vehicles and the high percentage resolutions.

Here's the promised link:

Thank you for the helpful link. I will need to ensure my new solenoid gets power from the ECU. And I will have my mechanic check for leaks.

When had this happen on my dad's old F150 truck, I just made a list based off the fault code and worked my way down it, but I started with all the low-hanging fruit items, like the fuel cap integrity, and looking for cracked hose ends at connectors, etc. The real PITA on his truck was they mounted the purge valve up above the spare tire carrier on a frame rail where it was basically inaccessible and I couldn't see it directly. Thanks Ford! Got it done though.

Just make a list.
