Light clunk rh front suspension ,any ideas ?

Light clunk rh front suspension ,any ideas ?

I've heard it a few times over about 3-4 weeks while on road going over small undullations at about 25-40 mph . It does it once or twice and I don't hear it again for days . It doesn't happen going into or out of driveways or at other times. I was wondering if RH front link may be going , I can't get it to move by hand . The Rh front absorber was my other thought. Anyone ever had this type noise?

Control arms.. probably upper... also check suspension for too much give..

One lower arm was replaced on the recalls in Dec. I'll try a small pry bar and see if I can ..

get any movement from the upper arms. No other noises so its been puzzling me. I should probably check fasteners also to make sure things were done right.

I'll bet it's a tie rod end.

look at the horizontal bar at the very top of the steering linkage above the tire. There's a ball join in the end. If the rubber seals are gone, then you should get the tie rod ends replaced. They cost about $80 each and you'll need an alignment afterwards.

These wear out usually in about 75K miles.

this is true.. however... they usually don't give a "clunk" iirc

you say light clunk, almos a clicking?

if its a click check the springs on brake calipers.
If they are fine id look at the unchanged control arms or sway bar end links.

Mine clunked when they were shot

Tie rod ends looked perfect, but replacing them killed the clunking over small road bumps. A control arm is usually a squeak, not a clunk.

an audi mechanic at the dealer told me as a general rule of thumb clunking comes from TRE's (maybe in inner tie rod) and lower control arms.. any squeaking type noise typically comes from the upper arms. so with that in mind, maybe focus your first attention to the lower control arms.. (i have a very loud clunking noise when i hit the brakes half way, so i need to investigate myself)- good luck
