Moved to Montana and it's already -1 F, what do I do for cold weather ie. block heater/magnetic pads
I want to make it easier to start the car.
I see there are block heaters available for certain cars, or magnetic heat pads.
What works best?
Is there a block heater for the A4 2.8, and the best place to get one?
Also would it be a good idea to keep the battery warm?
Thanks to all you fellow cold weather folks.
invest in an oil pan heater. One that mounts directly onto the pan. They are usually held by a bracket and take 120volts. Next up is the batter blanket. Simply wrap it around the battery, run the extension cord to the front of your car. That should be sufficient. Considering you have a manual i'd suggest skipping 2nd... high rev first.. then go third.. to avoid the gear slop... once it warms up shift normally.
Methyl hydrate in the fuel tank will help keep gas lines from gelling... anyways.. that's about it. I've never liked the magnetic pads... we had them on some of our trucks in the past... bad performance. OH one more thing.. there are some heating elements which have glue on them.. you literally stick them on your oil pan. Then you plug them in.. they work great!
run a thinner oil as well.
More of a temp use item but it worked great at -20 at the mountain....
You should get a bettery blanket and perhaps an oil pan heater as well...
