Just got my Blackstone Laboratories report on my engine oil:
Insolubles (oil oxidation due to heat, use, and blow-by) were low at 0.3%, showing good oil filtration and complete combustion.
No fuel dilution or anti-freeze was present in the oil.
The TBN was strong at 5.1 showing lots of active additive left in the oil. 1.0 or less is a problem.
We think this engine is doing great at 133,000 miles. Try 8,000 miles for your next oil change interval."
NOTE: I was running Mobil 1 5W-40 and an OEM oil filter. I only added 1 qt. over the 6,000 miles this oil change was in my car.
- Not bad. Unfortunately M1 5W-40 is no longer available so I am running 5W-40 Castrol Sythetic now. I will likely re-do this test in a few months to see how the Castrol holds up.
- All elements were at or below the Universal Averages (UA) except for:
IRON: UA = 5 ...... My Car = 8
MLYBDENUM: UA = 2 ...... My Car = 46
NICKEL: UA = 0 ...... My Car = 1
BORON: UA = 33 ...... My Car = 40
SODIUM: UA = 0 ..... My Car = 12
The car has 163k miles on it. Tracked for 2 days with this M1 0W-40

But, if you pre-pay for your $20 sample kits, let's say a 6-pack, they'll be $3 off.
so, you could pay $37 for the Dyson Analysis of your oil with a TBN test.
It used to be only $30 total for the DA. I guess he wants more money for his outside services from Blackstone.

http://www.blackstone-labs.com/dyson_analysis.html</a
