Default Woot AW is back... now on to the problem... :-(

A friend brought his 01 A4 1.8T over to my house to be scanned because he was having a problem with the car stalling/ shutting off on him when he was driving and coming to a stop. It happend to him 3 times today and it took him a couple cranks to get it started. The car is currently at my house and won't start. It will crank but won't start. Here are engine codes:

4 Faults Found:
17536 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1 (Mult): System too Lean
P1128 - 35-00 - -
16395 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Retard Setpoint not Reached (Over-Advanced)
P0011 - 35-00 - -
16706 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): No Signal
P0322 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16705 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Implausible Signal
P0321 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
Readiness: 0000 0001

The 2nd one scares me a bit. Gonna go STFA now, hopefully these are nothing too serious. His timing belt, water pump, tensioners, etc were all replaced about 9k miles ago.

Default Guessing a wonked crank sensor.

Which is a guess as I am not even sure our cars have such a thing.

Default they do and it does

go bad on the 06A block. 078-906-433-A is one possible sender found on the AMB. I think I have a few spares here. AMB and AWM are pretty much the same engine save for thermostat, heater core feed system, fuel rail setup... return/non return and the breather system might be a bit different.

Default any mods? ...

i'd try using lemminwinks to set back the timing a bit.. see if that helps. possible the belt jumped a tooth or something? bad chip?

Default basically stock...

the only thing he has is an open/cone K&N intake that's just dangling around in there. I'm guessing that this is the cause of the first code. The other thing engine wise is a turbo back exhaust. Other than that it's stock.

so you think it's the cam shaft sensor under the TB cover?

Default so based on searching am I right to conclude that he needs...

a new MAF, cam position sensor, and an engine speed sensor.

Default crankshaft vs. camshaft.

Crankshaft sender reads a ring on the crank... mounted to the engine block. Towards the rear of the engine.

Camshaft sender reads a cup shaped piece of metal attached to the intake cam at the front of the engine.
