Default Shocks?

I got a 1998 A4 Quattro 2.8. I noticed that I get some noises from the rear right side of my car while driving usualy whenever I go over bumps or first starting off from a light. It sounds as if something is moving, at first it sounded like the exhaust. But I outruled that as I was on the highway today I noticed the car handled differently around turns. Not such a great experience!!! Once at my destination I got out and noticed that the rear right side of the car was slightly lower then the rest of the car. I then began to compress up and down on the left and right side of the trunk to feel the difference. I noticed the right side was less responsive.

This lead me belive that the right rear shock has gone or is on its way out.

1.) This car has shocks on the front and back right?

2.) What upgrades would you guys recommend? Blistein?

3.) What kind of a difference would these upgrades give the car?

4.) How hard of a job is this to do myself? Tell me it does not require spring compressors.

5.) What am I looking at for prices of stock vs upgrades?

6.) How many miles do these tend to go at on this car?

Thanks in Advance!

Will this change the ride height of the car? If so by how much?

Default are you stock or sport?

stock gets pulled down to a 1/4 lower than sport and sport goes down about a quarter inch.

I got stock parts in it now, my guess is they are the originals on the car. I now have 130,000 miles on the car.

Do I need a pair of spring compressors to replace just the shocks? If so what kind?

Will it be a stiffer ride with the blistein sport / vogtland sport springs?

Default 1) yes there are shocks both front and back

2) either Koni or Bilstein

3) I'm not so sure

4) Its not too difficult, the rears are very straight forward and take about a hour each side. The front is a little more envolved but nothing too terrible. Check out the tech section, theres a writeup in there. Yes it does require a spring compressor. They arent so scary but just tedious work. I got mine from Sears($45 IIRC)

5) Not sure but knowing Audi the stock parts are probably more than aftermarket

6) Depends. I've heard someone say 60k and others say 160k. Depends on your roads I guess

7) Are you looking to upgrade the springs as well or do like the ride you have now? Upgrading the springs and lowering the car means an increase in spring rate but there are springs out there that arent so stiff that it rattles your brain

I like the ride how it is now. By upgrading just the shocks to sport and not changing the springs, would it be worth it?
