Default Installed new engine/transmission mounts, still have rpm dependant hum/slight vibration...

I'll get some audible hum with the pitch increasing as the rpm's increase (and stay constant when a rpm is held), goes away immediately when revs down (and you can hear the pitch/vibration/resonance go down with it), I did *NOT* replace the front snub mount... could that be an issue here?

I did loosen the snub mount bracket and let it idle with the bracket loosened, however it just fell down towards the ground and was easy to move up/down, didn't seem my "aligning" was doing any good, should the bracket be tighter?

any clues? it sounds like an exhaust leak almost, but it's pretty quiet and i've had it on the lift searching for a leak that I haven't found

Default here's a pic of how my snub is installed, did they install it backwards?

<img src="http://shawnkubik.home.comcast.net/snub1.jpg">

<img src="http://shawnkubik.home.comcast.net/snub2.jpg">

I thought it was supposed to go the other way around *shrug*

how can i even tell if it's bad or contributing to my problem?

Default does it make a difference if the engine is under load?

I.E. when you are driving is the vibration/hum worse then if you are just feathering the pedal to get the increased rpm

Default from your description, sounds like an exhaust leak, not a drivetrain mount issue

Likely a leak after the turbo--maybe a bad flex section in the DP.

Default My vibration was coming from the starter cable heat shield

look down by the cat, there is a wiring harness that runs to the starter. The tube, serving as a heat shield may be loose like mine was creating a slight vibration that was more harmonic, especially at 3200 rpm.

Tightening or in my case, replacing the missing bolt, solved the issue!

Hopefully yours is equally simple and resolvable!

I agree but I had it on the lift and couldn't find a leak

I'll check it out, the new mounts seems to have made it worse!

Default Did you have someone plug up the tailpipe

My dad and I were having a hard time finding the exhaust leak on my moms car. I had my dad hold a towel over the tailpipe while I looked for the leak.
