ABS/Brake light... Also, VAG-COM info?

ABS/Brake light... Also, VAG-COM info?
My ABS and Brake lights go off after a little slip and sometimes just after hitting a bump... Anything I should check for? They just blink on, then go out after. The ABS seems to work alright, though I haven't had to use it after the lights started going off.
Also, can someone fill me in on the VAG-COM deal? How much is one, where do you get it and does it work w/other cars? I have an old laptop (it has a mouseball!) that would serve the scan function nicely.

does it beep and flash THREE TIMES????
Three times usually = bad news, ABS module may be going bad. If it beeps once, check the brake reservior, the level sensor might be getting stuck in the down position.
