Default First it needs to be diagnosed

Depending on the dealer's hourly rate and how much time it takes the tech to diagnose it, could be anywhere from $150-$300 in diag alone, maybe more. Then there is the labor to replace the faulty part, which could be a switch, the heating element (may have to replace the entire seat cover) or the wiring.

In short, bring your money.

Default You could do that too

I can say that most of the time it ends up being the switch, but I'd check it first to be sure.

Default Take the switch out and put an ohmmeter across the contacts on the back of it

and move the dial, the resistance value should change uniformly across the selectable range. I don't know which 2 contacts off the top of my head, refer to the wiring diagram for that info.

Default Thread-jack... question for you on buTT warmers --->

I have a set of seats that I was planning to put into my 1961 International 4wd truck --- long story don't ask.

Anyway, is the heating a simple hook up? Without looking at the wire diag. yet I have no idea, but I thought you may know off teh top-o-your-head. Is it like 12V at high, 10V, 8V, 6v on down the lower the switch goes or is a relay on-off timed cycle to get the varying heat settings or ???????????

Thanks for any info. If you're not sure I can look it up in my Bentley manual anyway. Thanks man!

Default There is a repair procedure for the urS heaters on S-cars.org that includes a diagnostic.

It's close enough that you could probably fix it yourself. Figure on about a hundred bucks for the most common failure: bottom heater elements.

Really? On the older cars too? Seems like all the 44's and urS's have element failures.
