After a lot of thinking about what to do with my car next, I have come to the following conclusion:
I don't want to spend 10K or st3 end similar kits. I can't afford/won't spend the money for a new car with the kind of power I want.
I can however afford a $5-6K GTI Mk4 VR6.
And I wanted a sanity check. Am I imagining things or would it be a good/fun investment? Any technical and non-technical comments are welcome. Thank you.

I'm in the same boat. I want to upgrade cars, but I just graduated college a few months ago
and have decided to not go crazy with the spending. So for now I am keeping my car. It seems to be a better idea for the long run.

A comment....
I agree with Mr. Paul, unless your dead set on change which will cost(registration, taxes,issues with the used car, etc). Cars are generally bad investments but at least they are usually less expensive(hobby wise) compared to boats or planes. Save the $ for a couple years, the economy will be in different straights and the car your interested in will have depreciated a great deal. The B5 chassis Audis are really decent cars that stand the test of time fairly well if maintained.

I have no intention to sell my A4 (not any more). I'm thinking about a fairly nice beater car ...
so I can do stuff on it or when needed on my A4. I think I'll wait for very good deal and look for one and do research on the VR6 GTI's.

All these people at the local GTGs won't know what to think when you show up and go on a drive. It's fun to let them think your chipped. I've kept the throttle at like 60% through 3rd gear till about 4K, so were neck and neck, and just stare at them. Then I mash it, and pull away like nothing.
<rolls down window> "what kind of chip do you have man? you just walked on me like I was standing still.."
I just smile. And pull away agian.

in under a month my basement will have in it :S4 bumper CF hood . . .

and 2 busted up A4 fenders (that will have been replaced with the good fenders ON the car)
At this rate I will have a Eurospec rear end in my basement by the end of next co-op.
Would be a shame to leave all that in the basement
