Default Solaris' common sense tip of the night: For the turbo mount bolt, don't fight the turbo...

to get the bolt in, use a screw driver to flex the mount bracket to get the right angle for the bolt. DUH! I wasted a good 2-3 hours on that bolt when I installed my K04 last year and at least 45 minutes tonight before figuring that obvious bit out. The screwed up turbo threads tapped through nicely, new gasket is in, torqued to spec. Time to go for a ride.

Default bah, I still hear a slight exhaust leak when I go by walls that are just 5-10ft away

not nearly as bad as before, but certainly there. Get a little roll in 1st, put it in 2nd, then load up the turbo and that's when I hear it. I don't know, you guys, 26ft-lbs on those manifold to turbo bolts seems kinda weak to me, but that's what Audi says. What could 30ft-lbs hurt?

Default I would think 30 is even going easy.

Hell, 35 is what the intake manifold to head bolts are on the International truck I am modding currently. That's not much for that size bolt even in a hot/high stress area.... but WTF do I know really.

the leak could be elsewhere, but I'm going to try 30ft-lbs first

Default Have someone give the tailpipe heavy constipation while you listen/feel for leaks.

You say it's when you boost... sure it's not a boost leak?

Default nah, been over that several times. Pressure tested the intake twice, fuel trims acceptable

changing the gasket made the sound a lot better. Should Seafoam cause the cat to pour smoke out from behind its heat shielding even if it isn't leaking? That's how I've been checking for exhaust leaks, sucking up Seafoam in the IM. Only 2 places I was seeing smoke before was from behind the cat shield and around the gasket I just replaced (liquid there, too). If 30ft-lbs doesn't do it, I'll pick up some more Seafoam.

Default The cat itself should NOT leak.

I bet you $$ that is the issue. The cat under it's shield is welded, no way it should smoke out of there. The flange/gasket areas, sure and very common but the cat itself in the body of it... no.

Default I thought some parts of the exhaust should smoke with Seafoam even if they aren't leaking

I'll run more Seafoam and see what it does. If I get no smoke out of the area of the gasket I just replaced, smoke out of the cat, and still hear the noise, then it must be the cat. It sucks to have to remove it, but at least it's under warranty. Maybe I can get the new 300 cell from Tantrumwerks as a replacement.

Default Any place there is a gasket surface there is a chace of some smoke... but it it's welded (cat) it

shouldn't smoke at all.

Maybe it's just a flange that is crimped... but it shouldn't leak. That would also make sense that it would leak there under acceleration as that is an area that could back up a little and cause exhaust to "blow out".
