Please help alleviate my wife's nervousness about Bstone...
My wife is reading up on the Firestone issue and is pissed about people dying due to tire problems. She was asking me questions about those Bstones I bought.
Please sound off if you have RE730s, the number of miles you have on them and positive or negative. You are welcome to e-mail me directly if you don't want to speak out here.
I do not want this to reflect on Tire Rack just because they sell Bstones. I bought mine from them via my dealer and TireRack has always been wonderful to me, my dealer and to AudiWorld.
For her peace of mind I am willing to replace my tires before we go from Jacksonville to Atlanta this weekend for the Petit Le Mans, but if I could show some stats, it would be very helpful and save me some trouble and $$.
Thank you in advance,
Ivan
Tell Ali not to worry... hope this helps.

Ford spec'd the low pressure because of a stability problem (turning over) with Explorers in sudden manuvers (turning the steering wheel). Low tire pressure will reduce steering quickness.
I am not saying the Firestones are flawless but the combination of the low pressure spec'd by Ford, the Firestone all terrain tire and high hiway speeds are the culprit here, not simply a bad tire design.<p>2001 A4 1.8TQMS

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
They are noisy when pushed around a turn, but at least they don't drone on the highway like my SP8000E's did.
The RE730 is an upgrade of the much heralded RE71, which is on par with (and in some instances BETTER) than the SP8000.
I think that the RE730 is better than the stock SP8000E is every way -- noise, dry performance, wet performance. It is newer technology.
The SP8000 is a good "old technology" tire, as is the RE71. But the RE730 is newer and better than both.
As far as breakaway characteristics, the RE730s get loud near their limit of adhesion. But I haven't lost it yet. Not even on the racetrack.
I did skid my SP8000E's a few times on the street.
The sound near the breakaway is not as harsh as the RE730, but the limit isn't as high either.
Okay, so it's a little more than $.02.
