90 CS Quattro--tire size ???

90 CS Quattro--tire size ???
We are in the process of buying a 1993 90 CS Quattro and I have a question about the tires they have on it. The original specs call for a 205/60x15 tire but the tires on it are 195/65x15 (Contis of some type...checking today)is this somtething I should be concerned about? Does this mean they've changed the wheel size as well to fit the 195's? I really don't know alot about this, but I'm still working on my Audi education.

Either size is ok so don't worry. There is very little variation of the overall diameter of these 2 sizes. My 1995 90 had 195/65/15's when I bought it (used) and I put 205/60/15's for a little wider tire.
I ended up having one set of wheels for winter use with 205/60/15 snow tires and one set of wheels with 205/55/16 performance tires for summer use.
Check out the tire size calculator in the link below and see what the % differences are with the different sizes. As a rule of thumb, differences either way of less than 2% is acceptable. Are they snow or all season tires?
One reason for going to a narrower tire would be for better performance in snow. Sight unseen, I'd hazard a guess that a previous owner installed a narrower tire for that purpose.
When I had a '94 90S Quattro, I'd downsize in winter to 14" wheels for my narrow snow tires.
The diameter of the two different tire sizes should be very similar. Handling will deteriorate slightly with a narrower tire, while ride comfort will improve slightly because of the higher tire profile.
If ride is most important to you, stay with what's there. If performance counts more, you may want to change tires. Or, then again, you might want to go to even bigger wheels with wider, lower aspect tires.

They were all delivered with 195x65's. 205x60's work great and
the speedo diff is negligible. I've been running 205's on my '95 90sq for 5 years and the car is lowered 1.5" via H&R Sport springs. No problems whatever.
