Donut question (no Krispy Kreme jokes)
Recently got a used '98 A4 2.8qas. The spare is a donut, the other wheels are the stock sport package stuff (7 spokes, SP 8000Es etc.). What do most people do regarding the spare -- get a new matching wheel and identical tire? Stick with donut? Get a matching tire with inexpensive steel wheel? I'd prefer not to depend on a donut, but will a regular tire/wheel fit in the trunk space? If I were to get a new matching alloy wheel, where would I find one?

I am in the same boat as you..
I am in Toronto so I am getting 4 snow tires and shall live with the donut as wheel + 1 snow +1 sp8000e is too much to fork out. If you don't need snow tires then sure you can probably get the wheel from dealer or clairparts. If you get after market wheels then I suggest you buy 5 as it could be a PITA to try and find a replacement if a wheel make a 'careless encounter' with the curb.

1. Do you know what psi the donut should be at?
(For that matter, any idea of the correct psi for stock Dunlop SP 8000Es with sport package. I've never been able to get a definitive answer and have gone with 36psi, which is what the gas tank door decal says. (My dealer keeps putting them back to 32.) I don't entirely trust the decal because I don't know what model of tire it contemplated, but 36 seems like a good firm ride.)
2. Does Audi still sell the '98-vintage 7-spoke sport wheels? I'd like a back-up plan if I can't find them in the classifieds.

1. I don't know the donut psi requirements. It is probably in the manual or on the tire.
The pressures of 36 seem about right - that was what I ran on my 205/55x16 SP8000s. Interesting about your dealer changing pressures to 32 for your tires. My dealer dropped the pressure in my SP9000 225/45x17 from 40 to 36psi.
2. You can get the wheel from Audi and probably from Clair - but it will be expensive. You might try Gary@Ronal - but just watch the classified or post a note in the A4 forum.
