How long should SP 8000E's last?

How long should SP 8000E's last?
Mine have about 27,000 miles of not particularly demanding driving on them, and from what I can tell the tread still looks OK. Aside from the treadwear indicator, how can you tell if you're close to needing new tires?
I'm trying to decide whether to get winter tires or just switch to all seasons year round; if I thought the 8000Es were going to die soon I'd probably just get SP 5000s rather than having to by snows and then get a new set of performance tires for summer. If, however, there's a lot of life left in the 8000Es I'd probably get snows and then switch back in the spring.

Mine are at 45K and just about done......
I don't do much aggressive driving so I'm pretty pleased with the tread life. I've been debating over the all season vs dedicated snow issue for the past couple of months since I knew I would need new tires before winter hit. Right now I'm leaning towards the SP 5000s. We haven't been getting a whole lot of snow in Chicago the past couple of years so the all-seasons seem to be the way to go. Also, if I decide not to get new wheels and tires in the spring, I'll be OK.

Damn....I got 22K out of my first set...
Replaced with 225/50 SP8000's which, when I sold that car, had 8000 miles on them and they were looking HURT.
My new A4 has teh SP8000E's and it has 18000 miles on it and will need tires within 2000 miles for sure.
I guess I do some 'aggressive' driving?

on the sp8000's....
just use the treadwear indicators. As soon as ANY of the indicators on a tire are even with the tread, go shopping.
Those indicators make it so much easier than on tires without. The old 'coin test' was fun...
SP8000's (not E's) are still cheap in either 205/55 or 225/50 fitments (less than $90/tire at TireRack or Discount Tire).
